Havsa, Edirne'nin bir ilçesi.
Havsa, Edirne'nin kuzey yarısında ve Lalapaşa yaylası üzerindedir. Doğuda Kırklareli, batıda Edirne merkez ilçesi, kuzeyde Süloğlu ve güneyde Uzunköprü ilçeleriyle komşudur.
İlçede dağ yoktur; kuzey-güney doğrultusunda sıralanan tepeler vardır. Bu az yükseltili yayvan tepelerin en yükseği, Doğruk Tepe'dir. Vadilerin derinliği azdır. Bu vadilerden birinin geniş tabanı Osmanlı Ovası adıyla anılır. Başlıca akarsuları Oğulpaşa, Necatiye, Kuleli dereleriyle, Darıdere ve Aşırıdere'dir. Bunlar Ergene ırmağının kollarıdır. İlçede doğal göl yoktur ancak yapay gölet bulunmaktadır
Tarihçe:
Havsa ilçesi Romalılar tarafından kurulmuştur. Havsa, Roma İmparatorluğu ikiye ayrıldıktan sonra Bizanslılar'ın elinde kalmıştır. 1356 yılında Rumeli'ye geçen Türkler burayı I. Murat vasıtasıyla Türk topraklarına katmışlar ve ilçeye "Hosa" adını vermişlerdir. Edirne, Osmanlı Devletinin hükümet merkezi olduktan sonra Hosa'da bulunan Rumlar, Padişah I. Murat'ın ikamet ve din serbestisi ile ilgili fermanlarına aldırmadan burayı terk ederek İstanbul ve Selanik taraflarına göç etmişlerdir. Fetihten sonra Anadolu'dan getirilen göçmenlerle kasabanın Türkleştirilmesi sağlanmış, Sokollu Mehmet Paşa'nın buraya önem vermesiyle de Türklük gelişmiştir. Bugün Hacı İsa, Hacı Gazi ve Helvacı Baba mahalleleri o dönemde getirilen göçmen ailelerin isimlerini taşımaktadır.
Tarihi eserler 1577 yılında Sokollu Mehmet Paşa tarafından oğlu Kazım Paşa adına Mimar Sinan'a yaptırılan Sokollu Camii, Fukaraya Bektaşilerinden olduğu söylenen Kurt Bey Anıtı, sadece kemeri kalan kervansaray, harap vaziyetteki Sokollu Hamamı ve bugün de kullanılmakta olup bütün tesisleri Mimar Sinan tarafından yapılan çeşmedir. Tarihi eserlerden Hafsa Hatun ve Abdülselam Camii'nden hiç bir iz kalmamıştır. Padişah II. Beyazıt'ın hanımlarından Hafize Sultan ilçeye yerleştikten sonra ilçeye bir müddet "Hafse" denilmiş, daha sonra bu iki isim karışımından "Havsa" ismi doğmuştur.
Coğrafya:
İlçe il merkezine 27 km uzaklıktadır. Kuzey ve batısında Edirne ili, güneyinde Uzunköprü ve Pehlivanköy ilçeleri, doğusunda ise Kırklareli ili ve Babaeski ilçeleri bulunmaktadır. Yüzölçümü 454 klilometrekare olup, rakımı 31 metre arasında değişmektedir.
